    Isabel Polanco essay prize

    Santillana Foundation created the International Essay Prize Isabel Polanco

    Santillana Foundation, in collaboration with the International Book Fair of Guadalajara (FIL) has established the International Essay Prize Isabel Polanco, in honor of what was once CEO of Grupo Santillana during the past 12 years, which gave a enormous boost to the publishing group in Spain and Latin America.

    The prize includes an award of $ 100,000.


    1. The prize all writers who wish, whatever their nationality, provided that the work presented fits to the widely accepted test is written in Spanish, original, unpublished and has not previously been awarded any other contest or in respect of a deceased author's work before presenting the award. In this third edition the subject is free and works submitted must contain one or more literary essays grouped in an organic shape a book unit. We will not accept collections of articles.
    2. The works will have a minimum length of 200 pages, A4 size (21 × 29.7cm), printed on one side only. The organizers are not responsible for any loss or damage to the originals, or any other circumstance attributable to post or to third parties that may affect the delivery of the work.
    4. Receipt of the books begins with the publication of this notice and will close on June 15, 2011.
    5. The jury is composed of 5 prominent members of the cultural world.
    6. Award will be given a single, indivisible, with 100,000 U.S. dollars, of which detract taxes that are applicable under Mexican law.
    7. The prize can not be declared void. There will be one winner, not a finalist.
    8. The jury's decision is final and will be announced at a ceremony to be held on October 10, 2011 in the city of Guadalajara.
    9. The winning work will be published by Taurus and is marketed in Latin America, Spain and the United States.
    10. The author of the winning yields to Santillana Ediciones General SL the exclusive right to work in any form and in all its forms, for all the world, for a period of 10 years.
    11. The prize rewards the release of all exploitation rights of the winning work in any format or manner and has the character of an advance on the percentage of copyright, to be 10% in hardcover and / or rural and 7% in the pocket. Once cover the amount of the prize, the author will receive these shares, calculated on the retail price without VAT in each country.
    12. The author of the winning entry agrees to sign the publishing contract for the reasons stated in these rules. If not formalized the contract for any reason, the content of these rules will be considered a contract transferring copyright from the publisher and the winner.
    13. The publisher reserves Taurus for a month from the day the decision is made public, the right to hire any of the works submitted for the award.
